CJ Watson is a songwriter, producer and musician who enjoys all genres and has had success across the board with Pop, Jazz, Bluegrass, Blues, Rock, Country, Reggae and many other styles of music. CJ is the author of several books, including “The Everything Songwriting Book” (©2003 Adams Media), “Extreme Questions” (©2002 Nelson) and “Essential Songwriting”(©2006 Adams Media) and was interviewed in the 2004 Songwriter’s Market.
In 2014, Pop artist Mindy Braasch played a set of Watson co-writes for members of congress, opening for Steven Tyler and for the National Music Publisher’s Association. He has the title cut on the Bankester’s Love Has Wheels CD, which won a Momentum Award (IBMA) and ‘Best Bluegrass Album’ (Independent Music Awards). Watson got a 2013 ‘long list‘ Best Original Song’ Oscar nomination for ‘Voodoo’, which he wrote and performed for the movie ‘Halloween Party. Also in 2013, he had songs in ‘Off the Boulevard’ (with Peter Fonda, Eddie Vedder and Joe Mantegna) and ‘Dead in 5 Heartbeats’ and had a recurring theme on the Emmy winning series ‘Venice’.
CJ was the recipient of the 2008 Kerrville New Folk Award for Songwriting. Past winners include Steve Earle, John Gorka, Lyle Lovett, Shawn Colvin, Townes Van Zandt and James McMurtry. He produced/co-wrote and played guitar on all songs on Asteria Lux’s ‘Lovedrunk’ EP, which debuted at #7 on the iTunes Jazz Chart and was#1 on the Reverbnation Nashville regional Jazz chart 12 straight weeks. His songs have been featured in the Rockband videogame, National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered” , the ‘Rick and Bubba’ syndicated morning show and on NPR’s ‘Car Talk’ and recorded by artists including James Otto (Mercury), Lisa Shaffer (Lyric Street), The Henningsens (Sony) and Mustang Sally (f. Gretchen Wilson) (Curb) .
